Hans J. Wegner AP19 Papa Bear Chair and Ottoman
An original AP-19 Lounge Chair and matching ottoman designed by Hans J. Wegner for A.P. Stolen. Better known as the Papa Bear Chair, the design remains one of Wegner’s most sculptural and recognizable forms, defined by its sweeping wingback silhouette, deeply pitched seat, and expressive oak “paw” armrests. This example retains the chair’s characteristic button-tufted backrest and tapered solid oak legs, paired with the matching AP-29 Ottoman.
The chair is upholstered in bright blue Hallingdal wool textile designed by Nanna Ditzel, a richly textured fabric that complements the warmth of the light oak frame and sculpted arm details. The upholstery is carefully tailored throughout, emphasizing the chair’s dramatic profile and soft architectural form. Oak paws and legs have been lightly refinished and retain a warm, even tone. A particularly strong and comfortable example of Wegner’s iconic lounge chair, equally suited to residential or hospitality settings.
We specialize in the correct restoration and upholstery of Papa Bear Chairs and offer reupholstery services using traditional methods and high quality materials.
