Eames Elephant Hide Gray Zenith Rope Edge Armchair

$2,000.00

First-generation Zenith rope-edge armchair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller, 1950s. The shell shows the irregular thread patterns and tonal variation that distinguish the earliest fiberglass runs. The rope-edged molding frames the form, a feature unique to Zenith’s initial production. The elephant hide gray colorway, in particular, is prized for its subtle, moody palette and ability to reveal the depth of fiberglass texture. The original X-base remains intact, with all original glides present. Underside carries the Zenith checkerboard label, Herman Miller Furniture Company, California.

Zenith Plastics, based in California, handled this first production run under contract with Herman Miller. Today, Zenith rope-edge examples are among the most collectible of all Eames shells. Their limited production window, combined with their material expressiveness, makes them especially sought after by collectors.
