Eames DAX Armchairs
Fiberglass Shell Armchairs in elephant grey on black H-bases, designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. The armchair carried forward the Eameses’ first experiments with molded fiberglass, offering a durable, versatile form that balanced organic contours with industrial clarity. Elephant grey remains one of the most coveted early finishes, valued for its moody depth and ability to highlight the material itself. The shells display the distinct thread texture and tonal shifts that mark the earliest fiberglass production, with clusters of spot marks on the reverse known to indicate manufacture by an Ohio subcontractor for Herman Miller. Each retains its circular foil medallion to the underside, marking early Herman Miller production.
