Hans J. Wegner GE-1 Daybed

$11,500.00

A rare and important GE-1 Daybed with Ottoman designed by Hans J. Wegner for Getama, Denmark, 1950s. The design reflects Wegner’s early exploration of adaptable lounge furniture, combining a reclining daybed with a matching ottoman that extends the form into a full chaise. The sculptural solid teak frame features softly rounded edges, shaped stretchers, and an exposed blackened steel adjustment mechanism that allows the backrest to recline through multiple positions.

The matching ottoman aligns flush with the daybed to create a continuous resting surface while maintaining the visual rhythm of the frame when used separately. Original slim tufted cushions remain intact and retain their vibrant red-orange upholstery. Thoughtful construction details like brass hinges and original metal support remain present beneath the cushions. An uncommon and highly architectural example from Wegner’s early production period, retaining its original ottoman, reclining hardware, and cushions.
